Polishing a sword reveals all the care and attention to detail the Smith forged into the blade. Polishing is an art unto itself. A traditional Japanese sword polisher will serve an apprenticeship of 5-10 years. It is a tedious and laborious job that can be likened to facial surgery.
I really dislike sandpaper for polishing blades. It is such a waste and a mess. Polish a little bit tear of a piece of sandpaper, polish a little more tear another piece and on and on until you have a whole pile of paper you just through away. Japanese polishing stones are not cheap and not readily available. This is an attempt to come up with a more user friendly system. More to come.
